can we just talk about how awful they are? I understand they're trying to target the younger market with the whole meme theme and random crap but come on.

I am now fleeing from tumblr.

This ranks up there with the worst, reminding me of this abomination from the previous decade:

It was largely considered the worst commercial of all time when it came out, and still is.

Basically, someone thought that taking some disturbing, weird video thing from the internet, and then paying the guy to make a commercial, would work. I think it was a classic example of "Oh yeah, the kids love this guy I know, he has this big website that's 'gone viral', if you feature him in a commercial they will love it!" followed by "...wait, kids really like this?" "yeah, totally!" "Well, whatever, put it in."

Except unlike tumblr (which is actually a big website) they used some disturbing corner of the net that no one had heard of at all.

500 ads have always sucked in America.

The first one was... J. Lo? Who fucking cares about her? And there was the whole thing about the cars breaking down while they tried to shoot the ad. In what totally wasn't the Bronx, which apparently was important because they said it was. If I remember that whole thing correctly. (The ad itself wasn't particularly great either, coming off as a poorly-executed attempt to do what Chrysler did with 200 and Eminem. Except badly).

Then the awful Abarth commercial where oh Italy is so fucking foreign and cool and sexy. Chick speaks Italian and that's supposed to sell a car.

The Charlie Sheen one was okay. Goofy, but okay. Unfortunately I doubt goofy is gonna sell your Mustang-priced, Spark-sized car to anyone in the land of Impalas and Suburbans.

Then another oh Italy is so fucking foreign and cool. "The next wave of Italians is here." Which blew.

Then they did the one where "oh, that's silly, Fiat doesn't sell a four door." Which was a ridiculous ad because it was implausible how familiar they were with Fiat. The average American doesn't go "hey, Fiat only makes two doors," they go "what the fuck is a Fiat?" And that ad had Pharrell's music. But Fiat apparently couldn't afford Pharrell because the ad features Diddy instead, for no apparent reason.

Whelp, that's the end of my rant. Fiat couldn't sell a rock to a crackhead.

I just keep watching it and keep becoming more confused!

Maybe this is why Subway is now doing better!

Also, I now am no longer as embarrassed by the Fiat ad!

Quiznos was actually beating up subway's market share at the time, people were annoyed with Jared Fogle . This ad was so bad it actually hurt Quiznos for a long, long time. It didn't help that they followed it up with the creepy talking toaster. It's generally used as a great example of how advertising isn't a win-win, but sometimes can actually damage your business.
